Robyn Gibson CSLA MALA
Robyn is a people-focused designer. She strives to create public spaces that are inclusive, engaging, and responsive to the needs of the community. As an Associate with PFS Studio, Robyn has a love for all things construction. She takes a rigorous approach to all phases of design, with an emphasis on constructability and the execution of design intent. She consistently delivers precision and excellence in construction documents, detailing and contract administration; and enjoys being on site to oversee the unfolding of design intent into tangible reality.
During her time with PFS Studio, Robyn has led several of the firm’s most prominent projects including urban parks, streetscapes, and high-density residential communities. Robyn’s most notable projects include the expansion of Westminster Pier Park, Thurlow & Harwood, a new residential development by Bosa Properties, and Coal Harbour Phase 2 in Vancouver.
Prior to joining PFS Studio, Robyn worked with HTFC Design & Planning on a range of public realm projects in western Canada. She holds a Master of Landscape Architecture and a Bachelor of Environmental Design from the University of Manitoba.
Makoto Hagi ASLA
Makoto places exceptional design at the forefront of his practice. As an Associate at PFS Studio, his outstanding attention to detail has consistently led to transforming design intent into amazing places for people to live, work and play. His work has a focus on incorporation of urban stormwater management, as well as preserving and promoting ecosystem services.
Makoto brings a breadth of experience across North America to his practice with PFS, where he manages complex large-scale projects including urban infill development, green roofs, and major public landscapes. Some of his most notable projects include LeBreton Flats Library Parcel, Cliff Street Power Plant in Ottawa, and Spring Street North Block in Seattle.
Makoto holds a Bachelor of Policy Studies, Ecological Policy and Planning from Kwansei Gakuin University, and a Master of Landscape Architecture from State University of New York, where he graduated Sigma Lambda Alpha. He recently received the Graduate of Distinction Award by the State University of New York’s College of Environmental Science and Forestry.
Mike Derksen CSLA BCSLA ASLA WASLA LEED AP
Mike’s practice is centred on a deep understanding of construction and implementation. With over 20 years’ experience, he has led the design and implementation of several of PFS Studio’s most prominent and complex projects. Mike’s technical skills and focus on elegant design detailing have been applied to best practices in urban ecology, enhancing the layers of meaning intrinsic to each project.
Mike’s portfolio of experience includes waterfronts, urban parks, streetscapes, ecological infrastructure, high-density residential communities, and university campuses. Recently, Mike led the design and implementation of Lansdowne Park in Ottawa, Moodyville Park in North Vancouver, River Green in Richmond, and several projects across University of British Columbia campus.
Prior to joining PFS Studio, Mike gained a broad range of experience in western Canada and internationally in San Francisco and Singapore, enriching the perspective he brings to the studio. He holds a Master of Landscape Architecture and a Bachelor of Environmental Studies from the University of Manitoba.
Maureen Hetzler CSLA BCSLA
Maureen strives for rigour and meaning in every project she designs and leads at PFS Studio. She continues to push the boundaries of possibility through her innovative, detailed approach to design. With nearly 20 years at PFS, Maureen has developed imaginative ideas into award-winning built work through her focus on craft and precision.
Maureen is currently managing the William Hawrelak Park Rehabilitation and Centennial Plaza Redevelopment in Edmonton; Ottawa Public Library in Ontario; and multiple high-density development projects in Bellevue, Washington. Other key projects include Vancouver House, Alberni by Kuma, the University of British Columbia Main Mall Master Plan, and the Pacific Rim Fairmont Hotel in Vancouver; Century Gardens Park and the 3rd Street Redevelopment in Calgary; the University of Victoria National Centre of Indigenous Laws; and the Vaughan Civic Centre in Vaughan, Ontario.
Maureen holds a Master of Landscape Architecture from the University of British Columbia, and a Bachelor of Environmental Studies from the University of Waterloo.
Jia Li CSLA BCSLA
Jia is a champion of design excellence. Her thorough approach to design considers the complex layers of a site to inform unique design solutions. Her special sensibility for children’s play environments has enriched many of PFS Studio’s community centre and park projects, and her graphic talents illustrate design solutions in ways that enlighten, captivate, and inspire.
With over 15 years with PFS, she has delivered many high-profile institutional, mixed-use, residential, recreational, and healthcare projects throughout North America and Asia. Some of Jia’s most notable projects include Sherbourne Common and Underpass Park in Toronto, Lansdowne Park in Ottawa and the City of Milwaukee’s Gateway Project along Lake Michigan.
Jia holds a Master of Landscape Architecture from the University of British Columbia, and a Bachelor of Environmental Design from world-renowned Tsinghua University in China.
Lin Lin CSLA BCSLA LEED AP
Lin is an accomplished designer and leader whose dual background in architecture and landscape architecture gives her a unique perspective and interest in integrating the built and natural environment. She has championed ecological resilience in her projects through some of the earliest integrations of stormwater management into landscape architecture works, and promoting land-based approaches to sea level rise. As a Senior Associate with PFS Studio, her exceptional organizational skills ensure that projects are consistently delivered on time and on budget.
Over nearly 20 years with PFS Studio, Lin has been involved in multidisciplinary teams for projects including Plaza of Nations, River Green Village & Waterfront Park in Richmond, Blatchford Redevelopment in Edmonton, University Boulevard at the University of British Columbia, Richmond Olympic Oval, and West Vancouver Community Centre.
Lin holds a Master of Landscape Architecture from the University of British Columbia, and a Bachelor of Architecture from Xiamen University, China.
Chris Mramor CSLA BCSLA
As a landscape architect with PFS Studio for two decades, Chris has played a lead design role on many of PFS’s most significant land planning and urban design projects. Chris’s mastery of conceptual design and design process, along with his extensive experience in project implementation bring exceptional quality to every project he delivers.
Chris’s skills in conceptual design, integrated site planning, and innovative construction detailing and heritage conservation contributed to design excellence in his many projects including Parliament Hill, Confederation Square and Rideau Hall in Ottawa; and Coal Harbour Waterfront, Hastings Park and Mountain View Cemetery in Vancouver. Chris’s international experience includes restoration plans for the Vimy Memorial in France and the ShaoHao Mausoleum in China.
Vancouver-born, Chris studied forestry before obtaining a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture from the University of British Columbia.
Vinh Van BES MLA
Vinh is an accomplished designer whose dedication to innovation and excellence is exemplified in each of his projects. He is currently leading multiple preeminent public realm projects including Bathurst Quay Waterfront, Mirvish Village Park, the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH), Agnes Art Gallery, Banff Centre, and Butterfield Park.
As the Studio Manager of PFS Toronto, Vinh cultivates a creative and collaborative environment with an intuitive design approach, creating meaningful design solutions to complex issues. His context-based approach to placemaking, understanding of macro and micro site scales, and rigorous approach results in a thoughtful impact on the beauty and functionality of the urban fabric. He is profoundly inspired by the tenets of good design to positively influence and transform the way we interact with our open spaces.
Prior to joining PFS Studio, Vinh worked with !Melk Urban Design and Landscape Architecture and Hargreaves Associates in New York City on a range of public and private open space projects. Vinh holds a Master of Landscape Architecture from the University of Toronto, and a Bachelor of Environmental Studies, Honours Planning from the University of Waterloo.
