PFS Studio is proud to be part of a new social housing project for women by women. The owner, Soroptimist International of Vancouver, partnered with the developer Purpose Driven, who has chosen an experienced team of all women professionals led by GBL Architects. PFS Studio’s Kelty McKinnon and Julia Garcia have developed a lush, curvilinear landscape plan that promotes formal and informal social connection, gardening, and children’s play.
The project will provide secure and affordable housing with 135 dedicated unit apartments for senior women (including current tenants in the existing building), women-led families and workforce women. The goal is not only affordability but also fostering a community of multi-generational women who connect with and support each other.
The elegant curvilinear building design is reflected in lush gardens and activity zones. Ground floor amenities include a communal lounge and table, zen area, and play zone surrounded by native plant massings. The roof terrace is a dedicated area for group activities and events. It is also surrounded by healing plants and lounge areas to gather and enjoy the views. The overall landscape design expresses Soroptimist’s vision of improving the lives of women and girls.
