West End Waterfront Parks and Beach Avenue Plan

City of Vancouver

PFS Studio is leading the West End Waterfront Parks and Beach Avenue Plan—a master plan for the parks, beaches and streets spanning from Stanley Park to Burrard Bridge. The design strategy stresses decolonization and Reconciliation; climate change and sea level rise adaptation; foreshore and upland ecological restoration; equity and accessibility; multimodal movement and connectivity; programming and facilities upgrades; and robust park and public life. Public and stakeholder engagement, particularly with Coast Salish Nations is a priority. Within the Core project team, PFS Studio has been collaborating closely with Coast Salish Cultural and Design Advisor Sky Spirit. A Story of Place document was created that integrated history and future speculation about Indigi-Futurist living on the waterfront—all centered on Coast Salish values and 2SLGBTQ+IA centered approaches. These ideas, along with comment and ideas generated through an intensive 3 phase engagement process, was integrated through design workshops with PFS Studio and Sky Spirit. UNDRIP and MMIW Report goals are centered within the design to ‘reclaim power and place’.
