PFS Studio was the lead consultant of a multi-disciplinary team for this nationally significant project, which was integrated into the National War Memorial site at Confederation Square in Ottawa in 2000.
The firm provided design services and established the form, materiality and siting of the sarcophagus, which included sensitive modifications to the plinth of the National War Memorial. PFS worked closely with Public Works Government Services Canada, the Royal Canadian Legion, Veterans Affairs Canada and with artists Mary Ann Lui, Maurice Joanisse, and Eleanor Milne to realize this important gesture, created to honour and represent Canadians who have sacrificed their lives in the cause of peace and freedom.
