Tyndale Green

Toronto, ON

PFS Studio is working with Collecdev-Markee Developments and an extensive multidisciplinary team on the creation of a new large-scale community at Tyndale University, where the university and surrounding neighbourhood will grow and thrive together.

The landscape is organized through a series of multi-scalar open spaces shaped by the site’s proximity to Toronto’s ravine system. A network of shared streets prioritizes pedestrians, cyclists, and people using mobility devices while still accommodating vehicles, creating safe and welcoming connections to throughout the site. Plazas and forecourts encourage everyday activity, providing spaces for informal gathering, play, and relaxation.

At the heart of the community, the Green Artery forms a continuous ecological spine that preserves and expands the mature tree canopy while strengthening connections to the ravine valley. The central Village Green serves as the primary civic gathering space for both the university and the surrounding neighbourhood, while the Ridgetop Promenade provides a contemplative overlook along the ravine edge. Residential courtyards further enhance livability by offering comfortable and sheltered green spaces for residents.

Planting strategies transition across the site from open civic lawns to more immersive ecological landscapes, including a restored lowland meadow and naturalized ravine-edge habitats. Together, these landscapes support biodiversity, enhance pollinator habitat, and strengthen the site’s integration with the broader ravine system while accommodating everyday use and passive recreation.
