At PFS Studio, we are more than landscape architects, urban designers and planners – we are a collective of innovators, problem solvers, stewards and crafters of the built and natural environment. We shape the world around us with creative expertise and an unyielding commitment to excellence.

For over three decades, PFS Studio has been at the forefront of planning, urban design, and landscape architecture in Canada and internationally. Founded in 1993 by Chris Phillips, Marta Farevaag and Greg Smallenberg as Phillips Farevaag Smallenberg, the firm has since grown, evolved and gained international recognition for innovative city-building and design excellence.
We are a multi-city practice operating from our studios in both Vancouver and Toronto. At the helm of PFS Studio are seven Principals, each bringing a unique blend of expertise, vision and leadership to the table. Supported by a team of highly experienced Associates and Designers, every project we do is shepherded with imaginative insight, technical precision, strong communication and a collaborative spirit.
Working across scales in urban centres, PFS Studio brings a strong understanding of how successful design is built on a grey and green systems-approach to the city, and a solid engagement with the social and cultural complexities of communities. In dynamic and ever-evolving urban centres, PFS Studio works on landscape-driven visions for planned communities that include high-density residential, commercial, and community uses. A cohesive landscape strategy is the binding element of the community through the identification of park program and design, streetscape design, integration with buildings, retail experiences, access and circulation, and public art and placemaking.
Sustainable landscapes are inherent in PFS Studio’s practice and the firm has demonstrated leadership in this important consideration in numerous projects from the conceptual phase of the process through the lifecycle of design components and energy efficiency considerations. We integrate cutting-edge climate resilience and sustainability strategies into every aspect of our design process, from site planning to material selection. By prioritizing ecological integrity and resource efficiency, we create landscapes that not only mitigate environmental impact but also thrive in the face of changing climate conditions, ensuring a healthier and more resilient future for generations to come.
PFS Studio is committed to supporting Indigenous communities and people in all the work that we do. We work as designers and planners on the traditional and unceded territories of Indigenous peoples whose cultures developed alongside local environments over countless generations. Our approach to Indigenous engagement and design is rooted in respect, reciprocity, and cultural sensitivity. By centering Indigenous knowledge and values, we co-create landscapes that honour the past, celebrate the present, and envision a harmonious future where Indigenous voices are heard and valued.
