Lansdowne Park officially broke ground this past Monday, marking the start of construction for the City of Ottawa’s new civic park designed by PFS Studio. D&G Landscaping will build the urban park at Lansdowne. The 40 acre public park features a great porch for the historical Aberdeen Pavilion, a civic garden and orchard situated across from the Horticultural building, a great lawn and water plaza to host civic events, and a skating court and children’s playground. Lansdowne Park was won as part of an international design competition in 2010. Three years later the vision for the park is becoming a reality and PFS Studio is extremely excited.
PFS Studio partner and project manager, Jeffrey Staates attended the groundbreaking ceremony. “It has been a great privilege to craft a new Lansdowne Park upon the foundations of the former park, and restore this amazing site along with its buildings to the cultural landscape of Ottawa. It’s exciting to prepare Lansdowne for the activity and events of its next century. Perhaps most of all it has been an honour to recreate Lansdowne park as a great big place to play.”
