PFS Studio worked with the City of Richmond to prepare a visionary plan to guide the future of the redeveloped, post industrial use of the lands along the Middle Arm of the Fraser River.
The purpose was to envision park and open space development along the riverfront to serve the rapidly changing city centre and its expanding population. Profound change and development that have occurred along the Middle Arm for the Olympics, the River Rock Casino and other venues made a re-evaluation of the future of the Middle Arm a timely and essential planning process.
The Plan envisioned a the creation of a major city park as a focus for the emerging city core toward the rivers edge. It would be linked by a continuous public foreshore walkway within an ecologically productive foreshore that created a place for festivals, waterfront activities and the celebration of Richmond, the Island City. The concept anticipated a premier urban waterfront intimately connected to Richmond’s downtown with signature parks, open spaces and opportunities for the public to experience the landscape along the Fraser River.
