The Zhuzhou City Park (ZZCP) Master Plan successfully established a new model of community development contributing to the identity of Zhuzhou and Hunan province as leaders in sustainable design. The plan is based on the three pillars of sustainability: social, economic and environmental. The ZZCP master plan is experimental in many ways but it draws upon ideas and executed projects from other places in the world that are at the forefront of innovation in the creation of more livable, sustainable communities.
In the case of ZZCP, the plan incorporates interconnected neighbourhoods throughout stunning agricultural lands all centred on a vibrant town centre. One of the most exciting ideas, and one with extraordinary potential in other parts of China, is the preservation and incorporation of the existing agricultural landscape and related agricultural activities into the community plan. This interrelationship of urban and rural presents considerable challenges however the master plan addresses these issues in innovative ways, resulting in beautiful and meaningful communities rooted within both the historic and the contemporary fabric of Zhu Zhou.
