Granville Island Accessible Playground

Granville Island playground is one of the most interesting and engaging accessible playgrounds in Vancouver.

This, in part, is due to the enthusiasm and commitment that the Granville Island administration showed throughout the process to creating a high quality play environment that was fun for all ages, abilities and play styles. The playground combines both ground level and elevated play experiences accessed by ramps and transfer platforms. Many natural elements are integrated into the design including food producing shrubs and trees, long textural grasses, large stone erratics, an innovative wheel chair accessible sand play environment, as well as a curving water sluice that empties into the sandpit and a key focus for many of the children at play. Overall, the playground is an environment where children of all ages and abilities are encouraged to play side by side, exercising imaginative, creative, and physical play within a safe, integrated, yet challenging space.
