The Haikou Eco City Master Plan has developed a new model for large scale community development in China. The plan puts forward the creation of a new town on 53 sq. hectares made up of a central business district, cultural and civic precincts, carefully placed and interrelated neighbourhoods, parks and schools, together with a selected group of clean high-technology industries in fields such as marine science, information technology, health and urban agriculture.
The PFS Studio plan nestles all of these land uses within an existing topography of gently rolling lowlands and tropical vegetation. In addition, the plan preserves and incorporates some of the existing agricultural lands and related activities. The plan emphasizes energy and resource efficiency, low environmental impact, health and wellness, and connections to nature.
