PFS Studio led a multi-disciplinary team in collaboration with Julian Smith Architects in the preparation of a Landscape Design and Management Plan for Rideau Hall, the official residence of the Governor General of Canada, a National Historic Site and one of only two landscapes in Canada designated as ‘Classified’ by the Federal Heritage Building Review Office.
The plan recognizes the dual significance of the property – as a unique historic cultural landscape to be protected, conserved and enhanced, and as a living residence to be enjoyed by the Governor General and by all Canadians. The plan’s guidelines are grounded in a detailed analysis of the historic landscape character of Rideau Hall and the intent to conserve its traditional functions as a residential estate designed in the Picturesque style.
